Tatschl Windows
The windows at St. Michael's were created in 1957 by John Tatschl, an Austrian émigré and professor of art at the University of New Mexico, for the original church building (now the parish hall). They were later moved to the new church building, and the nine images cumulatively tell the story of the life of Christ, with an additional image of St. Michael the Archangel in the Columbarium Chapel.
We have a guide to the windows, available for download below.

Glass Light Documentary
Glass Light is a short documentary exploring the John Tatschl stained glass windows at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Albuquerque. Through reflections by artists, historians, and the church’s clergy, the film invites viewers to see these windows not simply as works of art, but as living storytellers that shape the worship, imagination, and identity of the parish.
The film explores how these windows function as theology in glass—holding together abstraction and figuration, beauty and disruption, tradition and innovation. Glass Light reveals how Tatschl’s windows continue to speak across generations, inviting viewers not only to look, but to enter the story they illuminate.
