Outreach & Social Justice
"Individuals can resist injustice, but only in community can we do justice"
--Jim Corbett, founder of the sanctuary movement
Casa San Miguel Food Pantry
Casa San Miguel, our Food Pantry, serves approximately 400 households per month. The success of this ministry is reflected in the continued support by the church at large, our partnership with Roadrunner Food Bank, and an authentic desire to know and be in relationship with the people being served. It has been one of the core ministries of St. Michael's since 1997.
Dismas House
Dismas House, a part of HopeWorks, is a six-month prison reentry program for men exiting prison. Residents live in a house together with supervision and support. St. Michael's parishioners provide them with a meal and fellowship once a month.
Las Familias Solidarity
In cooperation with many regional groups, St. Michael's offers opportunities for education and advocacy around issues of immigration, especially along the Mexico/United States border.
The Landing provides short-term hospitality in a wing of the administrative building of the parish, welcoming youth groups, indigenous people traveling through Albuquerque, and migrants.
St Michaels is a member of the ABQ FaithWorks Collaborative. This is a consortium of churches working together to serve the marginalized in our community - the precariously housed, homeless and asylum seekers resident in Albuquerque. Learn more at www.abqfaithworks.org/.
Family Promise of Albuquerque is a non-profit organization that assists families who are at risk for homelessness, currently experiencing homelessness or recently exiting homelessness. The core of the program is their shelter, the goal is to help as many families with children as possible. No matter how families define their household, where children are concerned, Family Promise is here to help. More than 94% of families that go through the program graduate to continuous housing . With the help of volunteers from 21 faith communities around the Albuquerque & Rio Rancho area, Family Promise helped over 550 individuals in 80 families in 2020.
Family Promise of Albuquerque is also a community that wraps its arms around the families we serve to provide them with a network of support. SMAA Parishioners may donate funding or prepare and drop off food; they may also engage with the families to provide tutoring, child care, life-skills mentoring skills and stress relief/coping skills; or volunteer as part of the overnight team.
