Hello St. Michaels!

Hello, St. Michael and All Angels. I’m Angela Nalubega (she/they pronouns, either is fine) and I’m a Ugandan-American youth minister, popular educator, and community organizer. who feels blessed to be joining this community to serve as your Director of Young People and Outreach. Born in Baltimore, raised in New Jersey and Boston, I have spent most of my life on the east coast - except for a four year stint as a midwesterner attending Antioch College in Ohio, graduating in 2018 with a BA in History w/ a concentration on race and ethnicity studies in Latin America. After college, I worked at St. James School in North Philadelphia through the Episcopal Service Corps. I loved my time as a middle school social studies and religion teacher. Raised a devout Roman Catholic, with deep love for interfaith work, I have been an Episcopalian since 2019.

I’m arriving as a 2025 graduate from Princeton Theological Seminary, where I earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Christian Education and Formation, with concentrations in Theology and Ecology, Theology, Women, and Gender, and Public Theology. My thesis, “Protestant Evangelical Women and Religious Experience in Recife, Brazil”, explores the intersections of feminism, community organizing, and faith. I have spent most of my academic experience at PTS focused on the issues of youth ministry, faith formation, discipleship and liberation theology. I’m a recipient of multiple preaching awards, and I’m passionate about increasing biblical and theological literacy.

When I’m not crafting sermons or planning youth programs, I can be found devouring historical romance novels, dissecting the latest prestige TV drama, or cooking a big meal with friends. I love rugby and soccer, but I'm equally at home doing karaoke (love Fleetwood Mac!) I’m a queer-affirming, inclusively orthodox Christian. I’m deeply passionate about creating spaces where young people, whether young in age or in heart - can wrestle with faith, identity, and belonging in a broken world. I’m so thrilled to join SMAA in its mission, blending my gifts for teaching, learning and radical hospitality to nurture a community where all are known and encouraged to be who God calls us to be.
